Once upon a time, I was by day a corporate PR specialist and by night an MBA student. Near where the waters of the Chesapeake Bay meet the Atlantic Ocean, I worked for a manufacturer of boat engines.

My colleagues and I had an especially good run promoting a prototype race boat designed in Sweden. The Bat Boat, as it was called due to its distinctive wings, demonstrated the power of Volvo Penta’s sterndrive engines on the international race circuit.

Along the way, it garnered international media coverage:

  • A Design & Engineering Award by Popular Mechanics magazine
  • An appearance in the opening sequence of the NBC television series seaQuest DSV
  • A feature on the Discovery Channel’s Next Step¬†high-tech cable TV show
  • Covers and features in an array of boating ¬†magazines

Both the publicity and the actual ride were thrilling!
